
Adam Baran is a guitarist, composer, producer and noise maker based in Warsaw, Poland.
He creates music as one half of the songwriting duo Pola Chobot & Adam Baran, leads jazz group Helicopets and produces his own solo guitar recordings.
In his twenties, he received a jazz education and graduated from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław and the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice.
At that time improvised music became his main focus.
As a versatile musician comfortable across genres and works as a sideman with many renowned artists. Adam is currently touring worldwide with Jann. Both in the studio and on stage, he has collaborated with a variety of artists including legendary jazzman Michał Urbaniak, pop singer Alicja Szemplińska, alternative artists Patrick the Pan, Swiernalis, Kathia, Ofelia, Magda Kluz, and blues virtuoso Roman Puchowski.
His works with Pola Chobot include two LPs: Jak wyjść z domu, gdy na świecie mży?, Burza and two EPs: Trzeba mi and Po burzy. These records have been awarded and nominated by critics, music press and national awards. Over the years, the duo has developed a distinctive, spacious and melancholic sound built around expressive guitar riffs and the poetic nature of the lyrics. They are regarded as one of the most significant voices in the contemporary Polish alternative scene.
Adam is continuously performing original music across Europe at festivals and venues such as Sziget, Off Festival, Victoria Nasjonal Jazzstage Oslo, NOSPR Katowice, JazzFest Brno. As a sideman, he has toured Canada and the United States. In 2024, his jazz group Helicopets was selected by Nils Petter Molvaer, one of Adam’s musical heroes and head of the jury, as a finalist in the Jazz Juniors Competition. They received several awards at the competition, which will take them on a European tour in 2025 including performances in Denmark, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Croatia and Poland.
